Hi! I’m Jeannette, the voice behind Progress, Not Perfection. I live in the Philadelphia suburbs with my husband of (almost) 5 years. I enjoy cooking (and eating!), trying to keep my house plants and tiny herb/veggie garden alive, hand lettering (check out my Etsy shop!), and teaching people about safer beauty products.
Here’s some background about why I started this site:
I never had a healthy relationship with food. I remember taking diet bars to lunch in the 6th grade and following point-system diet plans with my mom when I was in Jr. High. Obviously none of that worked. I’ve gained and lost the same weight over and over again in the last 2 decades with no success. I’ve tried just about every diet out there (even non-diets become diets with the wrong mindset), and I’ve come to the conclusion that diets don’t work.
Recently, I started reading Cassy Joy Garcia’s book, Fed + Fit, and decided to try out her Fed + Fit Project in the hopes that I will learn how to make peace with food and my body. Early on in her book she suggests that I find a community, so I decided to join the biggest community there is – the online blogging community! I completed my “project” in June, and since then I’ve been following my own set of “rules” that make me feel good without feeling deprived.
I post a few times a week (usually Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) about food, fitness, fun, and my nutrition classes! I’m currenty enrolled in the Nutrition Therapy Consultant course with the Nutritional Therapy Association, so I’ll be a certified health coach by the end of June 2019. I’m really looking forward to not only improving my own health, but to develop skills and education to help you get to your own happy place!
