I hope you’re not tired of me talking about fall yet, because I’m just getting started! Today’s post has nothing to do with PSLs or cozy sweaters, and everything to do with taking care of your skin as the weather gets colder and drier.
I never had to think much about my skincare routine when the seasons changed because my skin was oily and that meant I had more than enough moisture year-round! In the last year or two has really evened out, and I experienced dry skin for the first time last winter. I noticed that when I wore foundation, my skin would immediately flake on my forehead and nose, but I thought it was the foundation’s fault. It took me weeks to realize it was a sign that my skin was dry. For the first time, moisture really mattered! I switched up some products and added extra moisture before putting on makeup, and that problem went away quickly.
So my lesson here, is that we need extra moisture in the drier months. Some people completely swap out their routine every few months, but that can be expensive. I’ve come up with two ideas to tweak your routine so you can get the added moisture your skin needs, without breaking the bank on a whole new routine.
Swap your cleanser:
Many cleansers can be drying, and switching to a more moisturizing option can make a huge impact on your skin! Here are some of my favorite moisturizing cleansers:
Countermatch Pure Calm Cleansing Milk: This is my new favorite cleanser! It’s hydrating and creamy, I love how my skin feels after using it.
Cleansing Balm: The Cleansing Balm is bit of an investment, but a little goes a long way, and it does double duty as a cleanser and nighttime moisturizer. This is a great option for those days when you can’t be bothered to wash your face. I remove my makeup with either the Instant Makeup Remover or a Cleansing Wipe, and massage a small amount of this into my skin before bed.
Add a facial oil or serum:
Oils and serums are like an extra boost of moisture on top of your normal regimen. It’s the perfect way to add some extra hydration in a quick, easy step. My favorite oil is the Balancing Facial Oil because it helps with redness, but there are plenty of options for every skin type.
If you have oily skin, and you’re thinking this doesn’t apply to me… help me get rid of the moisture! I’ve got you covered too. Beautycounter recently launched a whole line specifically for anyone with oily skin. Personally I love using the toner and occasionally the cleanser for my larger pores.
