My Healthy Living Journey

Clean meal option on the go!

Happy Friday, friends!  How have you been? What are your plans this weekend? I’m going to a family BBQ at my sister-in-law’s house, and I’m in charge of bringing a side.  Unless I’m struck by inspiration today, I’ll likely be bringing potato salad because who doesn’t love a good potato salad at a BBQ?  That’s right, no one. (duh)

This week has involved quite a bit of dining out with friends and family, and while I enjoyed the company and food (especially not the funnel cake fries we had for dessert – they were amazing), I am feeling the effects today.  I’m not necessarily allergic or sensitive to gluten, but I definitely start to feel more sluggish and sleepy if I eat too much of it.  I’m looking forward to a week of clean eating to reset my body before we go to Cape May for a few days of R&R!

On Wednesday I treated myeslf to the best salad ever from Zoe’s Kitchen, because I had a coupon (who says “no” to a $5 salad? right again, also no one.)  Their greek salad has all of the classic ingredients like feta, olives, tomatoes, and my favorite part – potato salad.  I realize this sounds ridiculous but it’s so good.  Their potato salad is vinegar based, not mayo based, so it goes really well with everything else in the salad.  I always add some grilled chicken and onions on top for protein too.

Today I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Zoe’s Kitchen is now an official Whole30 Approved partner!  Wait, wait, wait, I’m not doing a Whole30, so why does this matter?  Because even when I’m not following a Whole30 diet, I appreciate the high standards required to become a Whole30 Approved partner.  They don’t let just anyone put that logo on their packaging, so when I see that symbol on a package or menu it’s like presssing the easy button; I know that it’s a product I can feel good about.

A quick glance at the allergen menu will tell you that Zoe’s Kitchen isn’t perfect, but they’re still doing a pretty great job at providing healthy meal options.  At the end of the day, I feel good knowing that one of my favorite go-to places is also a great option for clean, quick meals.  While their greek salad is still my all-time favorite, some of their Whole30 Approved items are equally delish!  My favorites are the chicken kabobs, grilled potato salad (yum!) and the mediterranean chicken plate.
